9.11 Day

BRAND NARRATIVE

2026

The challenge we received from 9/11 Day was to build the narrative foundation that future campaigns could stand on. Our role wasn’t to produce advertising, but to help shape the story behind a movement that could endure for generations. Together with the organization, we explored how a single day of remembrance could evolve into a new civic tradition by giving greater meaning to what happened on September 12. Through conversations leaders across education, philanthropy, government, business, media, and community organizations, we searched for the narrative capable of bringing together different audiences around a common purpose.

What emerged was a simple but powerful shift. Instead of treating service as something people do on 9/11, service became the very expression of remembrance. We reframed kindness as an act of everyday heroism, distilled into a narrative that asked one question: Who are you showing up for? That idea became the center of a broader system designed to inspire participation, particularly among younger generations who know the events of September 11 only through history. The ambition was to preserve the values that surfaced in its aftermath: compassion, generosity, and the instinct to care for strangers.

The work extended far beyond messaging. We developed the strategic foundations that would allow partners, educators, nonprofits, businesses, and communities to participate through a shared language and shared purpose. Coalition frameworks, engagement toolkits, educational resources, activation models, creative prompts, and brand principles were all designed to help the movement scale while remaining true to its central belief: that kindness is heroic. The campaign itself would come later. Our contribution was to build the narrative system beneath it from which every future expression could grow.
